Hey Ben, great stuff on your blog here and thanks for teh kind comments. Most of the time I straight ahead but i rough out the timing with simple shapes first then throw in design on a second pass. Usually need a lot of clean up after that :)
Oh and there actually is a great fx book called elemental magic. Its helped me a great deal!
